Spectrophotometric Estimation of Sulfacetamide Sodium Using N,N-Diethyl-p-phenylenediamine Reagent

A simple, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method was described for the determination of sulfacetamide sodium in an aqueous solution. The is based on oxidative coupling reaction N,N-diethyl-p-phenelenediamine with presence potassium dichromate as oxidizing agent acidic medium to form a violet- colored product, which has maximum absorbance at 546 nm. Beer׳s law obeyed concentration range 1.25-75 µg.ml-1 sodium, molar absorptivity 0.76×104 L.mol-1.cm-1 sandell,s sensitivity value 0.03344 μg.cm-2.The relative error values are between-2.01 -0.14 while standard deviation between 0.34 1.55. proposed applied successfully assay its pharmaceutical preparations eye drops ointment.
